The Dali Museum Wedding | Michelle + Jake | St Petersburg Weddings

Jake and Michelle met through mutual friends in college at the University of Central Florida during the summer before their Sophomore year. Jake would walk Michelle home at night after going out with our friends, and Michelle eventually got the courage to give him her phone number. Jake and Michelle were a perfect match, and Dan (Jake’s eventual groomsman) would joke that we were already married!
Jake and Michelle dated for four years and two days (Michelle was counting) before Jake popped the question in Lake Eola Park in Downtown Orlando. A mutual friend Mark, who is a talented videographer and editor had regularly used Jake and Michelle for his projects. Jake told Michelle that Mark needed to use us for a music video he was working on, and he needed “couple shots” for the chorus part of the video. Mark followed Jake and Michelle with a video camera around the park until Jake proposed. In the moment of the proposal one of the swans that lives on the lake started swimming right in front of them, and Paramore’s “The Only Exception” played on the speakers. The moment was magical and created a lovely backdrop for pictures.
Michelle and Jake wanted a wedding in the Tampa region to accommodate friends and family who lived in the Orlando and Fort Myers area. It was the easiest choice they made when selecting the Dali Museum. The waterfront location, beautiful design, and amazing art created an elegant scene for their big day! Michelle and Jake got ready and stayed in the Don Cesar Hotel on St. Pete Beach. Known as the “Pink Castle,” Jake always wanted to stay their as a child. Their first look occurred in the gardens just outside the white sand beach.
Michelle and Jake had a non traditional ceremony on the helix spiral staircase, as guests looked down from the third floor balcony. Tonya Malay (Michelle’s Aunt) was the officiate and provided a lovely ceremony with features from The Princess Bride. Michelle and Jake had the opportunity to take pictures with the art in the Dali Museum, which was amazing! Their guests enjoyed a gallery viewing during cocktail hour and after the dances. Michelle and Jake selected “The Only Exception” as their first dance song, which brought back memories of the July evening that Jake proposed. Groomsman Troy led the train of the wedding party (and eventually all the guests) around the gardens with his fabulous dance moves. Michelle and Jake had an amazing time dancing and celebrating with their closest friends and family in the East Gardens of the Dali Museum.
